Looking after your body during your period is about self-respect and comfort, not hiding or feeling embarrassed. Good hygiene and healthy habits help you feel fresh, confident, and proud of what your body does every day. Treating your body with kindness is a way of saying, “I deserve to feel good.”


Changing Your Products Regularly


No matter what you use - pads, tampons, period underwear, or cups - the most important thing is to keep everything clean and change your products regularly.


Here’s a simple guide:

  • Pads: Change every 3–4 hours, or sooner if it feels damp.

  • Tampons: Change every 4–8 hours (never longer).

  • Period underwear: Rinse in cold water after use, then wash and dry fully before rewearing.

  • Menstrual cups: Empty and rinse every 8–12 hours, and sterilise between cycles.

Washing & Personal Care


Staying clean during your period is simple and is about caring for yourself, not feeling ashamed.


Try these easy routines:

  • Wash your vulva, which is the outside area, every day with warm water. You don’t need to use harsh soaps.

  • Avoid scented sprays or wipes as they can irritate your skin.

  • Change into fresh underwear daily.

  • If you have a leak, it’s okay. Rinse your clothes in cold water as soon as possible, and keep a spare pair of underwear with you just in case.


Remember, discharge, odour, and bleeding are all normal parts of how your body works. Staying clean is about feeling comfortable, not about hiding what’s natural.


Managing Leaks With Confidence


Everyone has a leak at some point, even adults. It doesn’t mean you did anything wrong.

If it happens:

  • Stay calm and grab your backup underwear or pad.

  • Tie a jumper around your waist or use a long top if needed.

  • Rinse the fabric with cold water when you get home.

  • Cycle tracking: Write down how you feel each day. This can help you understand your own cycle better.
