About New Moon

Hi, I’m Casey :)

Founder of New Moon Essentials, youth worker, sexologist, psychology student,
daughter, older sister, super cool aunty and a mum.

When we first envisioned New Moon, our mission extended beyond creating period kits and sharing information. As a mother and daughter working together, we wanted to help young people and those who menstruate feel understood. We wanted everyone to feel confident and comfortable as they move through one of life’s most natural experiences.

The name New Moon stands for beginnings, renewal, and growth. It gently reminds us that every stage of life, like each phase of the moon, has beauty and purpose. For us, it also reflects the cycle of the body and the strong connection between mind, spirit, and identity.

Our journey started with a simple idea: that no one should feel unprepared, embarrassed, or alone when their period begins. I remember being in Year 6, discovering blood in my underwear during class and feeling terrified. I didn’t have the language or confidence to ask for help, and I never want another young person to feel that way.

When my daughter reached the age where the conversation began, I started looking for a period kit to support her. Everything I found missed the mark. Some were full of gimmicks, others were expensive or over-the-top, and most didn’t include the basics that young people actually need. I wanted something that made sense, was practical, informative, and affordable. If my daughter and I needed this, why shouldn’t everyone else? That was the moment New Moon Essentials was born.

Every kit was designed with love, practicality, and inclusion in mind. From discreet waterproof cases and dark underwear to plain-language guides and anime-style comics, everything was shaped by my experiences as a mum and as a youth worker who has spent years helping young people navigate mental health, identity, and sexuality.

I believe knowledge is power, and understanding your body is an act of self-love. Some days we rest, some days we run, and each phase of our cycle teaches us something about balance and care. My goal is to replace shame with confidence, and silence with conversation.

When I’m not building New Moon, you’ll find me outdoors with my family and our dog (who always seems to know which stage I’m in). I love taboo topics and honest conversations, the kind that make us squirm a little but help us grow a lot. I’ve learned that setting boundaries and choosing rest doesn’t make us weak; it makes us whole.

Through my lived experience and my work  from youth engagement projects to advocacy for inclusive sexual-health education, I hope people remember me as someone who made these conversations easier, who helped others feel seen and supported, and who changed the way we talk about periods.

Because every new moon should begin with knowledge, confidence, and care - not fear.

Real Talk. Real Support. No Shame, Just Strength.

Our Mission

At New Moon, our mission is to empower menstruators of all ages through accessible, inclusive, and compassionate education. We believe that understanding your body is a powerful act of self-love. Knowledge helps break down stigma, spark meaningful conversations, and foster lasting confidence.

The Meaning Behind Our Logo

The rose and moon in our logo have a special meaning. The moon shows how life is always

changing but also steady, just like the menstrual cycle. The rose stands for growth, resilience,

and the journey into womanhood. Together, they represent the balance of softness and strength, the beauty of growing, and the idea that every stage, even the tough ones, shapes who we are.

Our Values

Education:
Promoting awareness and knowledge.

By providing clear, compassionate information, we help young people and families understand their bodies and cycles with confidence. We believe that education is key to breaking down myths, reducing shame and stigma, and opening up honest, empowering conversations about periods and growing up.

Empowerment:
Building confidence through understanding.

Knowledge is power; we aim to replace shame and confusion with self-assurance and pride in growing and learning. By normalising conversations around menstruation, we encourage individuals to embrace their bodies and feel empowered in their choices.

Connection:
Strengthening relationships across all generations.

We aim to build understanding and open communication between parents and children, peers and educators, and individuals and their communities. Connection creates the trust and support needed to foster healthy discussions and shared learning.

Community:
Supporting young people through local collaboration.

Through partnerships with schools, youth services, and community groups, we create spaces where learning, care, and connection thrive together. Our goal is to work collectively to end period poverty, ensure access to essential products, and promote equality for all who menstruate.

To us, New Moon is more than just a business. It is a movement that builds confidence, encourages conversation, and creates connections across generations. We believe every new beginning should be celebrated, and everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and strong.

New Moon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, learn and work, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our deepest respects to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to emerging leaders who continue to guide their communities with strength and wisdom.

We especially honour the strong women, the matriarchs, mothers, aunties and sisters  whose resilience, care, and knowledge continue to nurture generations and keep culture alive on Noongar boodja.

Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
